It's time for a new challenge on the Emerald Creek Dares blog, featuring "Anything Goes". When we received this challenge I was extremely excited as it mean't we were able to do whatever we wanted and use fantastic products from Emerald Creek. For my project I decided that I would mix mixed media and scrapbooking and combine the two on a layout.
To get the layout started, I randomly painted White Gesso in the middle of the patterned paper with a paint brush.
Once the White Gesso was dry I used the Typo stencil from Tim Holtz and Texture Paste from Ranger and applied it in the middle bottom and middle top of the patterned paper. Once the Texture Paste was dry, I randomly sprayed Wilted Violet Distress Spray Stain over top of the stencil images and parts of the gesso. After the Wilted Violet was slightly dry, I sprayed Black Soot Distress Spray Stain over top of the stencil images and parts of the gesso that were still white.
Once the sprayed colours were dry, I splattered Black Gesso, White Gesso and Tarnished Brass randomly on the layout.
While the splatters were drying, I cut out two lattice images from the Tim Holtz/Sizzix Mixed Media die. Once the lattice die cuts were cut, I covered both lattice images with Black Soot Distress Ink and then covered the lattice die cuts with Onyx Frost Embossing powder from Emerald Creek. Once the pieces were covered with embossing powder, I took my heat tool and embossed them.
The other thing I did while waiting for the splatters to dry, was embossing the two large purple roses and four black roses. I covered the roses with Distress Embossing Ink and then covered the roses with Iridescent Shimmer Embossing Powder. Once the roses were covered in embossing powder, I used my heat tool to emboss them.
Some of the finishing touches for my layout were adding the Heart Brads and Metal Key Charms from Emerald Creek. As well as the word band, typed token and heirloom roses from Tim Holtz's Ideaology line. Bunching all of these fantastic elements together created a fantastic bottom right and top left corner of the photo as well as highlighting the embossed lattice die cuts.
