Anything But A Card - Die Cut Team Designer Challenge

We're kicking off a new die cut design team challenge on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog today.  For June it's all about creating a project that isn't a card. With the challenge in mind, I created a "Beautiful" scrapbook layout "Beautiful" on a 5"x7" Canvas board that features a variety of dies from ModaScrap, Els van de Burgt Studio as well as A Way with Words. You'll also notice there is some fabulous new patterned paper from ModaScrap on my project. Make sure to read below as I have a tutorial for you so that you can re-create my "Beautiful" Scrapbook Layout on a canvas board at home. Read all the way down to the bottom as I have some information at the end of the post on how to get in on a fabulous giveaway from Elizabeth Craft Designs.

To start, cut a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 5" x 7".

From the Feather patterned paper, cut one piece that measures 4 7/8" x 6 7/8" and cut a second piece that measures 4 3/4" x 6 3/4". Distress the edges of each feather patterned paper piece with an edge distresser. Ink the edges of each feather patterned paper piece using Black Soot Distress Ink and a Blending Tool.

Cut a piece from the floral patterned paper that measures 4 1/2" x 6 1/2". Distress the edges of the floral patterned paper piece with an edge distresser. Ink the edges of the floral patterned paper piece using Black Soot Distress Ink and a Blending Tool.

Using the medium Entwined Circle die, die cut the entwined circle out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Ink the outside edges of the entwined circle using Black Soot Distress Ink and a Blending Tool.

From the Thinking about....Polinesia paper collection, pull out the navy and purple polka dot papers. Die cut a 2 1/2" stitched rectangle out of each piece of paper. Distress the edges of each stitched rectangle patterned paper piece with an edge distresser. Ink the edges of each stitched rectangle patterned paper piece using Black Soot Distress Ink and a Blending Tool.

With the polka dot paper still out, die cut the small dragonfly out of the purple polka dot paper. Die cut the large dragonfly out of the navy polka dot paper. Ink the edges of the dragonflies using Black Soot Distress Ink and a Blending Tool.

With the Stitched Rectangles still out, die cut the 3" stitched rectangle out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Distress the edges of the stitched rectangle with an edge distresser. Ink the edges of the stitched rectangle patterned paper piece using Black Soot Distress Ink and a Blending Tool.

Die cut a 3 3/4" Stitched Square out of feather patterned paper. Distress the edges of the stitched square piece with an edge distresser. Ink the edges of the stitched square piece using Black Soot Distress Ink and a Blending Tool.

Using the 3 1/4" stitched square die, die cut the square out of the floral patterned paper. With the square cut, place the 2 3/4" stitched square in the middle of the floral patterned paper and run the square through your die cutting machine. Push out the middle of square. This will leave you with a frame for your photo. Distress the edges of the stitched square frame with an edge distresser. Ink the edges of the stitched square frame using Black Soot Distress Ink and a Blending Tool.

While your Stitched Square dies are still out, die cut your photo using the 3 1/4" stitched square.

Using the Stitched Fishtail Banners Die, cut the 1 1/8" banner out of leaf patterned paper. Once the banner has been cut, flip the banner die to the non pennant side and cut out the other side to create the banner pennant on that side. Distress the edges of the banner with an edge distresser. Ink the edges of the banner using Black Soot Distress Ink and a Blending Tool.

The last element to die cut is the "Beautiful" word out of White Soft Finish Cardstock.

Before we start adhering the layout together, you'll need to pull out a 5" x 7" Canvas Board.

Adhere the 4 3/4" feather patterned paper to the White Soft Finish Cardstock piece. Adhere the White Soft Finish Cardstock piece to the 5" x 7" canvas board.

Adhere the floral patterned paper piece to the feather patterned paper piece.

Adhere the navy polka dot stitched rectangle 1/4" from the top and 3/8" from the left of the floral patterned paper piece. Adhere the purple polka dot stitched rectangle 1/4" from the bottom and 3/8" from the right of the floral patterned paper piece.

Foam square the White Soft Finish stitched rectangle over top of where the purple and navy polka dot papers meet.

Adhere the leaf patterned paper banner to the middle of the White Soft Finish Cardstock stitched rectangle.

Adhere the floral patterned paper frame over top of your photo. Adhere the entwined circle to the feather patterned paper stitched square. Foam square your picture to the middle of the feather patterned paper stitched square.

Adhere the feather patterned paper stitched square to the middle of the leaf banner and White Soft Finish Cardstock stitched rectangle.

Adhere the small dragonfly to the large dragonfly. Adhere the large dragonfly to the right of your picture. To finish off the front of your scrapbook layout, adhere the "Beautiful" word to the bottom portion of your photo.

To finish off the back of your canvas board, adhere the
4 7/8" x 6 7/8" piece of feather patterned paper to the back of your canvas board.

And here's your finished "Beautiful" Scrapbook Layout.

Being Negative - Die Cut Team Designer Challenge

Today we're kicking off a new design team challenge on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog.  For May it's all about being negative, so all of the die cut design team members were challenged to create a card using the negative piece left over from die cutting a die.  With the challenge in mind, I created a feminine Happy Birthday card featuring a variety of dies from ModaScrap. You'll want to read below as I have a tutorial for you so that you can re-create my Happy Birthday Card. Read all the way down to the bottom as I have some information at the end of the post on how to get in on a fabulous giveaway from Elizabeth Craft Designs.

To start, cut a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock to 4" x 5 1/4". Once the cardstock has been cut, place the large lacy poppy on the right hand side of your card. Make sure the stem of the poppy ends in the bottom left hand corner. Run the cardstock with the die on it through your die cutting machine.

Take the small poppy die and place it to the left of the large poppy die. Make sure the stem of the small poppy sits on top of the large poppy's stem. Run the cardstock with the die on it through your die cutting machine.

Using the positive part of the large poppy, blend Milled Lavender Distress Ink over the entire surface of the large poppy using a blend tool with foam. Apply Glossy Accents to the middle of the lacy poppy. With the glossy accents in the middle, sprinkle Ribbit coloured Flower Prills in the middle.

Using the positive part of the small poppy, blend Shabby Shutters Distress Ink over the entire surface of the small poppy using a blend tool with foam.

From the Stitched Fishtail Banners, die cut the 3/4" banner out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Trim the banner down to 2 5/8". Blend Milled Lavender Distress Ink over the entire surface of the banner using a blend tool with foam. Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the Happy Birthday Sentiment. Stamp the Happy Birthday Sentiment onto the middle of the banner. Ink the edges of the banner using Black Soot Distress Ink and a Blending Tool with Foam.

Cut a piece of patterned paper that measures 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". Using an edge distressor, distress the edges of the patterned paper. With the edges distressed, ink the edges of the patterned paper piece using Black Soot Distress Ink and a Blending Tool with Foam.

Cut a piece of patterned paper that measures 4" x 5 1/4".

Now it's time to assemble your card.

Adhere the white cardstock piece that has the poppies die cut on it to the 4" x 5 1/4" piece of patterned paper. Using an edge distressor, distress the edges of the White Soft Finish Cardstock. With the edges distressed, ink the edges of the patterned paper piece using Black Soot Distress Ink and a Blending Tool with Foam.

Adhere the positive large poppy to the right of the large negative poppy. Adhere the positive small poppy to the left of the small negative poppy.

Using thin foam squares, adhere the Happy Birthday Banner to the left hand side of the White Soft Finish Cardstock. Foam square the White Soft Finish Cardstock piece to the 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of patterned paper.

Create a small bow out of twine and adhere on the left hand side of the banner. Cut a piece of Super Stock Cardstock that measures 5 1/2" x 11", score at 4 1/4". Adhere the cardfront to the cardbase.

Here's a closeup shot of the cardfront.

Here's the finished Happy Birthday Card.

Glitter Background - Die Cut Team Challenge

Today we're kicking off a new design team challenge on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog.  For April it's all about glittery backgrounds, so all of the design team members on the die cut team were challenged to create a glittery background featuring Silk Microfine Glitter. With the challenge in mind, I created a masculine Happy Birthday card featuring a few of the Silk Microfine Glitter and dies from Moda Scrap, Joset Designs and Els van de Burgt Studio. You'll want to read below as I have a tutorial for you so that you can re-create my Happy Birthday Card at home as well as at the end of the post we are giving away a fabulous prize from Elizabeth Craft Designs.

To start, you'll need to cut two pieces of White Soft Finish Cardstock to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". You'll also need to cut two pieces of Clear Double Sided Adhesive that also measure 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". With your pieces cut, start by peeling off the back of one of the double sided adhesive pieces and adhere it to one of the white soft finish cardstock pieces. With the adhesive on one of the pieces of white finish cardstock, peel off the top paper of the adhesive and adhere the second piece of white soft finish cardstock overtop of the adhesive piece. Take the back off the last adhesive piece and adhere to the white soft finish cardstock. Make sure the top paper piece on the adhesive sheet remains on top of the White Soft Finish Cardstock. Thanks Jessie Hurley for sharing this technique with me.

Using the Diamond Background die, die cut the background on the cardstock and adhesive sandwich. Once the sandwich has been run through, peel off the tape on the adhesive on all the straight lines, leaving the diamonds still taped.

Sprinkle Chocolate Silk Microfine glitter over the now exposed adhesive parts on your background. Tap off the excess powder and then burnish the glitter with your finger. To get rid of the excess glitter clinging to the diamond areas, use a swiffer duster to pick up the excess glitter.

With the chocolate glitter now on your background. It's time to remove the diamond shaped tape pieces. Sprinkle White Silk Microfine glitter over the now exposed adhesive parts on your background. Tap off the excess powder and then burnish the glitter with your finger.

With the glittery background now finished, use the Pair of Leaves 2 die to die cut both leaves out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool and foam, blend Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink over the wider leaf.

Using the Pair of Leaves 1 die, die cut the smaller leaf out of Soft White Finish Cardstock.

Using the Stitched Circle die, die cut the 2 1/2" stitched circle out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. With the circle cut out, apply Potting Soil Archival Ink to the Happy Birthday Sentiment. Stamp the sentiment onto the middle of the circle. Using the Stitched Circle die, die cut the 3" stitched circle out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool and foam, blend Ground Espresso Distress Ink over the entire surface of the 3" stitched circle. With the circles finished, distress the edges of the circles and then ink the edges of the circles using Ground Espresso Distress Ink.

Using the Arrow die, die cut which ever arrow you'd like out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Once the arrow has been cut out, cut the arrow down to 2 3/4". With the arrow cut down, using a blending tool and foam, blend Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink over the entire surface of the arrow.

Using the Feathers die, die cut the small and medium feathers out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool and foam, blend Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain and Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide Inks over top of both feathers. With the ink on the feathers, lightly spritz the feathers with water. Dry the water with a heat tool. Using a blending tool and foam, lightly blend Ground Espresso Distress Ink over each feather.

Adhere the Happy Birthday sentiment circle to the Ground Espresso circle. Foam square the circles to the middle of the card front.

Adhere the arrow underneath the Happy Birthday Sentiment.

On the right hand side of the circles, adhere the leaves and feathers in a bunch as desired. To finish off the bottom of the feathers, add a small twine bow. Once your feathers have been adhered, push the sides of the feathers together to give a bit of extra dimension.

Cut a piece of Soft White Finish Cardstock that measures 4 1/4" x 11", score at 5 1/2". Adhere the cardfront to the cardbase.

Here are a few close up photos of my finish Happy Birthday card.

Thanks for joining me today! Make sure to head over to the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog to check out the rest of the team's wonderful creations. I hope that I've inspired you to re-create my Happy Birthday card at home.
