Today we're kicking off a new design team challenge on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog. For April it's all about glittery backgrounds, so all of the design team members on the die cut team were challenged to create a glittery background featuring Silk Microfine Glitter. With the challenge in mind, I created a masculine Happy Birthday card featuring a few of the Silk Microfine Glitter and dies from Moda Scrap, Joset Designs and Els van de Burgt Studio. You'll want to read below as I have a tutorial for you so that you can re-create my Happy Birthday Card at home as well as at the end of the post we are giving away a fabulous prize from Elizabeth Craft Designs.
To start, you'll need to cut two pieces of White Soft Finish Cardstock to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". You'll also need to cut two pieces of Clear Double Sided Adhesive that also measure 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". With your pieces cut, start by peeling off the back of one of the double sided adhesive pieces and adhere it to one of the white soft finish cardstock pieces. With the adhesive on one of the pieces of white finish cardstock, peel off the top paper of the adhesive and adhere the second piece of white soft finish cardstock overtop of the adhesive piece. Take the back off the last adhesive piece and adhere to the white soft finish cardstock. Make sure the top paper piece on the adhesive sheet remains on top of the White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using the Diamond Background die, die cut the background on the cardstock and adhesive sandwich. Once the sandwich has been run through, peel off the tape on the adhesive on all the straight lines, leaving the diamonds still taped.
Sprinkle Chocolate Silk Microfine glitter over the now exposed adhesive parts on your background. Tap off the excess powder and then burnish the glitter with your finger. To get rid of the excess glitter clinging to the diamond areas, use a swiffer duster to pick up the excess glitter.
With the chocolate glitter now on your background. It's time to remove the diamond shaped tape pieces. Sprinkle White Silk Microfine glitter over the now exposed adhesive parts on your background. Tap off the excess powder and then burnish the glitter with your finger.
With the glittery background now finished, use the Pair of Leaves 2 die to die cut both leaves out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool and foam, blend Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink over the wider leaf.
Using the Pair of Leaves 1 die, die cut the smaller leaf out of Soft White Finish Cardstock.
Using the Stitched Circle die, die cut the 2 1/2" stitched circle out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. With the circle cut out, apply Potting Soil Archival Ink to the Happy Birthday Sentiment. Stamp the sentiment onto the middle of the circle. Using the Stitched Circle die, die cut the 3" stitched circle out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool and foam, blend Ground Espresso Distress Ink over the entire surface of the 3" stitched circle. With the circles finished, distress the edges of the circles and then ink the edges of the circles using Ground Espresso Distress Ink.
Using the Arrow die, die cut which ever arrow you'd like out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Once the arrow has been cut out, cut the arrow down to 2 3/4". With the arrow cut down, using a blending tool and foam, blend Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink over the entire surface of the arrow.
Using the Feathers die, die cut the small and medium feathers out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool and foam, blend Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain and Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide Inks over top of both feathers. With the ink on the feathers, lightly spritz the feathers with water. Dry the water with a heat tool. Using a blending tool and foam, lightly blend Ground Espresso Distress Ink over each feather.
Adhere the Happy Birthday sentiment circle to the Ground Espresso circle. Foam square the circles to the middle of the card front.
Adhere the arrow underneath the Happy Birthday Sentiment.
On the right hand side of the circles, adhere the leaves and feathers in a bunch as desired. To finish off the bottom of the feathers, add a small twine bow. Once your feathers have been adhered, push the sides of the feathers together to give a bit of extra dimension.
Cut a piece of Soft White Finish Cardstock that measures 4 1/4" x 11", score at 5 1/2". Adhere the cardfront to the cardbase.
