Enjoy the Journey Tag

September was an absolutely crazy month for me with helping out at the Great Canadian Carnival in both Edmonton and Calgary, put on by Creative Scrapbooker,  with Emerald Creek Craft SuppliesSouthern Ridge Trading Company & Canuck Crafts. To finish off the month of September helping out in booths I went with Emerald Creek Craft Supplies & Southern Ridge Trading Company , as well as Creative Scrapbooker was there, to Olds for the ArtWaves West show. Having all of this on my plate, made it impossible for me to get my September Tim Tag done on time.
Now that the craziness has settled down a bit, I managed to get my September Tag done over the long weekend. September's tag features the Paint Patina and Alcohol Ink Resist Techniques. I have to say that this month's tag challenged me a bit and I will share with you why further down in the post.

For the alcohol resist technique, it took me five tries until I was finally happy with the end result. I love the result that this technique creates, but you definitely need to have patience. The butterfly images is from the papillon stamp set. For the alcohol inks, I used Pitch Black and Mushroom and the ink I used on the stamp was Archival Jet Black and Potting Soil. To add some extra interest to the middle of the tag, I matted the yupo paper onto a piece of black cardstock. Once the black cardstock was adhered to the base tag, I added the metal looking photo corners to each corner.

To decorate the bottom of the tag, I did the same patina effect on the word band as on the base of the tag. To adhere the word band, I used a couple of glue dots on the back as well as ran black string through either side. To finish the word band, I adhered three Heirloom Roses in the bottom right hand corner.

For the top portion of my tag, I foam squared an arrow in the top left hand corner as well as adhered two heirloom roses slightly above the arrow. To finish the top right hand side of the tag, I cut a small piece of Film strip ribbon and attached it with a staple using the handheld stapler. To add some extra interest to the film strip, I added a mirrored star to it.

For the ribbon at the top of my tag, I used the linen ribbon and added some colour to it using Walnut Stain Distress Ink on my blending tool.

Supplies Used:

- Tim Holtz for Ranger Ink: Distress Ink: Vintage Photo & Walnut Stain, Distress Paint: Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean, Peeled Paint, Tarnished Brass, Cracked Pistachio, Broken China, Round Blending Tool, Square Blending Tool, Alcohol Ink Applicator Felt, Alcohol Ink: Pitch Black & Mushroom, Alcohol Blending Solution

Life Doesn't Have To Be Perfect To Be Wonderful Tag

August has come and gone and I didn't manage to get my August Tim Tag done on time, but I managed to get my August tag done today. This month's tag features the Brayered Stain and Frameworks Techniques. For August's tag, I switched it up a little bit from what Tim Holtz did. This tag is by far one of my favourites from this year.

For the floral silhouette in the middle of my tag, I used two of the flower dies out of the Wildflower set and cut them out of black Core'dinations. Once the wildflowers were cut out, I layered them on top of each other.

For the bottom of the tag, I took a sentiment off the small talk set and cut it apart. The other element I added, was part of a film strip rubon. To finish the film strip rubon, I added a small mirror star that I coloured using Mushroom Adirondack Alcohol Ink.

In the top right hand corner of the tag, I used the rest of the film strip rubon. Overtop of the film strip, I added a metal key and coloured it with Mushroom Adirondack ink.

To finish the tag, I added twine ribbon to the top of the tag. I added some speckles using my Distress Spritzer with Black Soot and Ground Espresso Distress Markers.

Supplies Used:

- Ranger Ink/Tim Holtz: Distress Markers: Ground Espresso & Black Soot, Distress Ink: Vintage Photo& Walnut Stain, Distress Stain: Weathered Wood, Distress Paint: Hickory Smoke & Antique Linen, Adirondack Alcohol Ink: Mushroom, Distress Spritzer, Distress Sprayer and Multi Medium - Matte
- Ranger Ink: #8 Manilla Tags
- Tim Holtz/Sizzix: Thinlits - Wildflowers and Frameworks - Honeycomb
- Tim Holtz Idea-ology: Mirrored Stars, Remnant Rubs - Elements, Linen Ribbon, Small Talk, Grunge Paper, Textile Surfaces and Paper Stash - Dapper

Merry & Bright Tag

July has come and is almost gone and I've managed to get my July Tim Tag done.  This month's tag features the Water Colour Resist and Layered Words Techniques. For July's tag I thought it would be fun to make it into a Christmas tag. Let's be honest, it's never too early to create something Christmasy.

To add some interest to the bottom of my tag, I added a strip of the silver deco sheets just underneath the "& Bright". Once strip was adhered, I added three mirrored stars to the bottom right hand corner.

For the top of the tag, I added a red bow. Once I made the bow the way I liked it, I used a piece of twine to tie the peace typed token to the middle of the bow.

Here's what my tag looks like finished with all the extra elements.

Supplies Used:

- Ranger Ink/Tim Holtz: Distress Micro Glaze, Distress Markers: Candied Apple, Black Soot, Pumice Stone, Gathered Twigs, Antique Linen, Distress Ink: Vintage Photo and Distress Spritzer
- Ranger Ink: Archival Ink - Jet Black and #8 Manilla Tags
- Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous: Christmas Blueprints #5
- Tim Holtz/Sizzix: Handwritten Holidays and Holiday Words: Block
- Tim Holtz Idea-ology: Deco Sheets, Mirrored Stars and Typed Tokens

June Remix Tag - Remember to Play

It's hard to believe that the end of June is here and I have managed to get my June Tim Tag done.  This month's tag features the Tissue Wrap Collage and Stencil Plaid Techniques. For June's tag I had a ton of fun playing with lots of new products that Tim released at CHA this year. The top favourites from this tag is the Distress Collage Medium in Vintage and the Substrate Sheets.

I didn't have the die that Tim used on his tag, so I substituted it for the new Gearhead thinlit die. To finish the gears, I added some of the nail heads to the centres of the gears. To highlight the gears, I lightly went around with a Black Soot Distress marker and then rubbed it into the tag.

For the bottom of the tag, I added a saying using the small talk as well as adding the arrow over top of an extra piece of linen fabric I covered with a stencil & ink.

The last piece on my tag was adding a remnant rub and stapling some film ribbon to the right side of the tag to finish it off.

I have entered my tag here:

May Remix Tag - "Dream as if You'll live forever"

I'm a couple days late in getting May tag's done, but I made sure that it got done.  This year for Tim's 12 tags, it's all about remixing past techniques and combining them together with other techniques that he has shared over the past years. This month's tag features the Tissue Tape Resist and Tattered Florals Techniques.  For my tag, I played with a variety of older products from the Tim Holtz Ideaology line to create my tag.  It was fun to bring older product out to use as many times the old product gets lost underneath the new product.

For the tittle on my tag, I used one of the word bands and added metallic ribbon to it. For the tiny tattered florals, I used my blending tool and applied a layer of Abandoned Coral Distress Ink to them. For the leaves, I used my blending tool and applied a layer of Peeled Paint Distress Ink. I didn't want to use all three tattered florals in the corner, so I added a heirloom rose into the mix. Before adhering the flowers and leaves down, I added a strip of film ribbon to the bottom right hand side.

The first finishing touch for the top of my tag was adding an arrow adornment and wrapping some paper string around the bottom of it. The second finishing touch was adding the crinkle ribbon which was dyed using Scattered Straw Distress Stain.

Products Used:

- Tim Holtz/Sizzix: Tiny Tattered Florals
- Ranger Ink: Texture Paste, Black Archival Ink & #5 Manilla Tags
- Ranger Ink/Dina Wakley: Palette Knife
- Ranger Ink/Tim Holtz: Peeled Paint & Abandoned Coral Distress Ink, Tattered Rose, Scattered Straw & Brushed Pewter Distress Stain, Cracked Pistachio Distress Spray Stain, Splatter Brush
- Tim Holtz Ideaology: Film Strip Ribbon, Trimmings - Metallics, Adornments - Arrows, Heirloom Roses, Paper String - Solids, Tissue Tape - Symphony

April Remix Tag - "No Journey Is"

It's almost the end of the month and I've managed to get my April "Tim Tag" done with two days to spare. This year for Tim's 12 tags, it's all about remixing past techniques and combining them together with other techniques that he has shared over the past years. This month's tag features the Faux Mosaic and Paint Resist Techniques.  This month I played with a variety of new products and some older products from Tim Holtz to create my tag. My favourite new product is the Distress Paper Mosaic Kit, it's well worth the investment.

I  created the coloured effect on the woodgrain distress watercolour cardstock piece using Antique Linen paint . Once the paint had dried, I added Broken China, Chipped Sapphire and Brushed Pewter Distress Stains over top.  After the stains had dried, I went over the entire piece of woodgrain cardstock with my Ground Espresso Distress Ink. To finish the woodgrain cardstock piece, I used my Distress Spritzer and spritzed Black Soot and Gathered Twigs in spots on the cardstock. Once the woodgrain cardstock was dry, I wrapped a piece of linen ribbon 1 1/4" from the bottom of the tag.

For my butterfly I used the Butterfly Duo Bigz die, one of my favourites. After I cut the butterfly out of chipboard, I went to work on creating my mosaic tile look. The paper I used for my mosaic tiles was from the Menagerie 8x8 paper pad. Once the top coat on the tiles were dry, I went over the grout with Ground Espresso Distress Ink. When I go to make another mosaic tile pattern on a die cut image, I will use plain chipboard instead of black chipboard. The black chipboard turned the grout into a purple hue.

The left side of my tag was too plain, so I pulled out my Wildflowers stamp set, and stamped a couple of images. Once the Archival ink dried, I then fussy cut around each flower image.

I wanted to add the arrow and a saying to the top right of my tag. So I took a strand of paper string from Tim Holtz's Ideaology line and put it through my "dream" token and wrapped the string around the middle of the arrow, once it was wrapped around enough, I knotted the string at the top of the middle of the arrow.  I also wanted to customize my ribbon, so I used crinkle ribbon and sprayed it using Pumice Stone, Black Soot and Tumbled Glass Distress Spray Stain.

The finishing touch to my tag was adding the saying in the bottom right hand side. My saying came from small talk and I just cut it apart to fit in the bottom right hand corner.

February Remix Tag - "Today is full of Possibilities"

It's time for my February "Tim Tag". I'm excited as I have now completed two months in a row!!
This year for Tim's 12 tags, it's all about remixing past techniques and combining them together with other techniques that he has used over the past years. This month's tag features the Monoprint and Embossed Texture Paste Technique.
For this month's tag, I decided to use the Gothic, Bricked and Typo stencils to create the base of my tag.

I  love the effect that the monoprint technique gives to the base of the tag.  When I embossed  over top of the texture pasted Typo numbers and alphabet, I used Emerald Creek Burnt Copper Leaves Embossing Powder. I love how they turned out.

Because I didn't have any photo booth found relatives, I improvised and used one of the relatives out of the Found Relatives set. Once I had chose my relative, I trimmed him down to 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" and then rounded the corners.

To finish my tag, I added the gears to the bottom right hand corner as well as the top left hand corner. I ended up combining the small gears with larger gears together and love how they work so well together. I also added film strip underneath the top and bottom of my relative,  attaching with a staple at either end of each film strip. The last pieces I added to my tag was the ribbon at the top of the tag and adding the saying to the bottom of the tag.

I love how this tag turned out and I can't wait for next month's tag!
Thanks for stopping by and checking out my second 12 tags of 2016 inspired by Tim Holtz.

January Remix Tag - Lock

My New Years Resolution this year was to participate in Tim Holtz's 12 tags of 2016. My blogger friend Nicole Wright Designs inspired me to take the plunge after seeing all of the beautiful tags that she had made last year.
This year for Tim's 12 tags, it's all about remixing past techniques and combining them together with other techniques that he has used over the past years. This month's tag features the chalk technique and distressing metal.
For this month's tag, I decided that I wanted to use the lock stamp from the Industrial Blueprint stamp set.

The chalk technique has become one of my new favourite technique to use. I used Holographic embossing powder instead of Frosted Crystal to complete this technique.

I stamped a second lock and cut just the lock part out and foam squared it over top of the other chalked lock.

To create the effect on my faux embossed metal, I used the Riveted embossing folder. I covered the embossed faux metal with a layer of Cracked Pistachio Distress Paint. Once the Distress Paint was dry, I added a light layer of Mushroom Adirondack Alcohol Ink overtop to highlight parts of the embossed faux metal.

I didn't have any word bands on hand, so I improvised and used one of the sayings out of the Ideology Small Talk stickers.

I love how my first tag turned out and I can't wait to try out next month's tag!
Thanks for stopping by and checking out my first 12 tags of 2016 inspired by Tim Holtz.

Until Next Time!
