Enjoy the Journey Tag

September was an absolutely crazy month for me with helping out at the Great Canadian Carnival in both Edmonton and Calgary, put on by Creative Scrapbooker,  with Emerald Creek Craft SuppliesSouthern Ridge Trading Company & Canuck Crafts. To finish off the month of September helping out in booths I went with Emerald Creek Craft Supplies & Southern Ridge Trading Company , as well as Creative Scrapbooker was there, to Olds for the ArtWaves West show. Having all of this on my plate, made it impossible for me to get my September Tim Tag done on time.
Now that the craziness has settled down a bit, I managed to get my September Tag done over the long weekend. September's tag features the Paint Patina and Alcohol Ink Resist Techniques. I have to say that this month's tag challenged me a bit and I will share with you why further down in the post.

For the alcohol resist technique, it took me five tries until I was finally happy with the end result. I love the result that this technique creates, but you definitely need to have patience. The butterfly images is from the papillon stamp set. For the alcohol inks, I used Pitch Black and Mushroom and the ink I used on the stamp was Archival Jet Black and Potting Soil. To add some extra interest to the middle of the tag, I matted the yupo paper onto a piece of black cardstock. Once the black cardstock was adhered to the base tag, I added the metal looking photo corners to each corner.

To decorate the bottom of the tag, I did the same patina effect on the word band as on the base of the tag. To adhere the word band, I used a couple of glue dots on the back as well as ran black string through either side. To finish the word band, I adhered three Heirloom Roses in the bottom right hand corner.

For the top portion of my tag, I foam squared an arrow in the top left hand corner as well as adhered two heirloom roses slightly above the arrow. To finish the top right hand side of the tag, I cut a small piece of Film strip ribbon and attached it with a staple using the handheld stapler. To add some extra interest to the film strip, I added a mirrored star to it.

For the ribbon at the top of my tag, I used the linen ribbon and added some colour to it using Walnut Stain Distress Ink on my blending tool.

Supplies Used:

- Tim Holtz for Ranger Ink: Distress Ink: Vintage Photo & Walnut Stain, Distress Paint: Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean, Peeled Paint, Tarnished Brass, Cracked Pistachio, Broken China, Round Blending Tool, Square Blending Tool, Alcohol Ink Applicator Felt, Alcohol Ink: Pitch Black & Mushroom, Alcohol Blending Solution

Lucky Clover Challenge on the Emerald Creek Dares Blog

It's time for a new challenge on the Emerald Creek Dares blog, featuring "Lucky Clover". When we received this challenge it took me a while to figure out what I was going to do. I don't normally do anything for St.Patricks Day, so this was a great challenge for me. For my project I decided that I would create a fun St. Patricks Day themed tag.

To start my tag,  I blended Lucky Clover and Twisted Citron Distress Ink onto the tag with my blending tool. Once I was happy with the blended colour, I spritzed some water onto the tag to give it a  watermarked effect.

After the watermarks had dried, I added some shamrocks on the background of my tag using the smallest heart from the heart stencil by Tim Holtz and Lucky Clover Distress Ink.

Before the background on my tag was finished, I went around the edges with Tim Holtz Embossing Distress Ink. Once the ink was around the edges, I covered the edges using Vegas Gold Embossing Powder from Emerald Creek. After the edges were covered, I heated the embossing powder with my heat tool.

I wanted to use the Floral Frame Corners in a couple of the corners on my tag, so I covered them using Gold Adirondack Alcohol Ink to continue keep on my gold and green theme.

I wanted to add a Leprechaun onto my tag, so I used the Paddy stamp from Emerald Creek and stamped it onto white cardstock.  I coloured my Paddy using Lucky Clover, Black Soot and Antique Linen Distress Markers. Once the colouring was done, I precision cut around him.

The next part was the fun part, creating my own custom shamrocks. The nice thing about shamrocks is they don't have to be perfect, so I took my Dina Wakley - Collaged Hearts stamp and stamped four small hearts onto my white cardstock. Once they were stamped, I covered the hearts with Embossing Distress Ink and sprinkled St. Paddy's Day Embossing Powder from Emerald Creek over top of them. After the hearts were covered with the embossing powder, I heat embossed them and then cut them out with scissors.

After the large shamrocks were created, I moved on to creating two sets of smaller shamrocks. Since I didn't have smaller stamps, I used the large heart from the heart stencil by Tim Holtz. I created 8 hearts using Lucky Clover and Twisted Citron Distress Ink. Once I was happy with the colouring of the shamrocks, I cut each one out. With the leftover white cardstock, I blended Lucky Clover and Twisted Citron onto the cardstock and then cut out strips for my shamrocks.

The final piece that I needed to create for my tag was a title. I blended Lucky Clover and Twisted Citron Distress Ink onto another piece of white cardstock. Once the colour was the way I wanted it, I took some alphabet stamps I had and stamped "LUCKY" onto the coloured cardstock. After the tittle was stamped and cut out, I went around the edges with Embossing Distress Ink and then sprinkled Vegas Gold Embossing Powder over top. Once the embossing powder was on, I embossed it with my heat tool.

Some finishing touches for my tag was placing the shamrocks were I desired first before adhering my gold corners to my tag. I also wanted to hide my Paddy, so I placed him amongst the sparkly clover to draw a bit of attention to him. Once the other two shamrocks and the title were placed, I adhered the gold corners. The final finishing touch to my tag was the custom ribbon, I dyed it with Lucky Clover Distress Spray Stain and Perfect Pearls Mist in Perfect Pearl.

Anything Goes on the Emerald Creek Dares Blog

It's time for a new challenge on the Emerald Creek Dares blog, featuring "Anything Goes". When we received this challenge I was extremely excited as it mean't we were able to do whatever we wanted and use fantastic products from Emerald Creek. For my project I decided that I would mix mixed media and scrapbooking and combine the two on a layout.

To get the layout started, I randomly painted White Gesso in the middle of the patterned paper with a paint brush.

Once the White Gesso was dry I used the Typo stencil from Tim Holtz and Texture Paste from Ranger and applied it in the middle bottom and middle top of the patterned paper. Once the Texture Paste was dry, I randomly sprayed Wilted Violet Distress Spray Stain over top of the stencil images and parts of the gesso. After the Wilted Violet was slightly dry, I sprayed Black Soot Distress Spray Stain over top of the stencil images and parts of the gesso that were still white.

Once the sprayed colours were dry, I splattered Black Gesso, White Gesso and Tarnished Brass randomly on the layout.

While the splatters were drying, I cut out two lattice images from the Tim Holtz/Sizzix Mixed Media die. Once the lattice die cuts were cut, I covered both lattice images with Black Soot Distress Ink and then covered the lattice die cuts with Onyx Frost Embossing powder from Emerald Creek. Once the pieces were covered with embossing powder, I took my heat tool and embossed them.

The other thing I did while waiting for the splatters to dry, was embossing the two large purple roses and four black roses. I covered the roses with Distress Embossing Ink and then covered the roses with Iridescent Shimmer Embossing Powder. Once the roses were covered in embossing powder, I used my heat tool to emboss them.

Some of the finishing touches for my layout were adding the Heart Brads and Metal Key Charms from Emerald Creek. As well as the word band, typed token and heirloom roses from Tim Holtz's Ideaology line.  Bunching all of these fantastic elements together created a fantastic bottom right and top left corner of the photo as well as highlighting the embossed lattice die cuts.

January Remix Tag - Lock

My New Years Resolution this year was to participate in Tim Holtz's 12 tags of 2016. My blogger friend Nicole Wright Designs inspired me to take the plunge after seeing all of the beautiful tags that she had made last year.
This year for Tim's 12 tags, it's all about remixing past techniques and combining them together with other techniques that he has used over the past years. This month's tag features the chalk technique and distressing metal.
For this month's tag, I decided that I wanted to use the lock stamp from the Industrial Blueprint stamp set.

The chalk technique has become one of my new favourite technique to use. I used Holographic embossing powder instead of Frosted Crystal to complete this technique.

I stamped a second lock and cut just the lock part out and foam squared it over top of the other chalked lock.

To create the effect on my faux embossed metal, I used the Riveted embossing folder. I covered the embossed faux metal with a layer of Cracked Pistachio Distress Paint. Once the Distress Paint was dry, I added a light layer of Mushroom Adirondack Alcohol Ink overtop to highlight parts of the embossed faux metal.

I didn't have any word bands on hand, so I improvised and used one of the sayings out of the Ideology Small Talk stickers.

I love how my first tag turned out and I can't wait to try out next month's tag!
Thanks for stopping by and checking out my first 12 tags of 2016 inspired by Tim Holtz.

Valentine's isn't in the Air - Emerald Creek Dares

It's time for a new challenge on the Emerald Creek Dares blog, this challenge is based on Valentine's isn't in the air, focusing more on love for the single people.  When we were told about the new challenge, I was excited about it as I hate Valentine's Day. So with the new challenge in mind, I created a canvas featuring myself and how important it is to love yourself first.

Supplies Used: Emerald Creek - Heart Brads, Burnt Copper Embossing Powder & Onyx Frost Embossing Powder. Ranger/Tim Holtz - Black Soot Distress Ink, Embossing Ink, Hickory Smoke Distress Paint & Worn Lipstick Distress Paint. Ranger/Dina Wakley - White Gesso, Spatula & Ruby Acrylic Paint. Ranger - Texture Paste - Transparent Matte. Tim Holtz - Lattice Stencil. Tim Holtz Ideaology - Small Talk. Core'dinations - Tim Holtz Kraft Core: #3, #23 & #24.  Sizzix/Tim Holtz - Tiny Tattered Floral.

To get my canvas ready for painting, I painted the entire surface with White Gesso. After the Gesso had dried, I laid the lattice stencil down on the top left and bottom right hand corner of the canvas and covered the lattice pattern with Matte Texture Paste.

Once the stencil images were dried, I painted the entire canvas with Ruby paint. After the Ruby paint for dry, I added some Hickory Smoke and Worn Lipstick Distress paint to the entire canvas. Once the coverage was good with the paint, I wiped off some of the wet paint with a paper towel to create a custom background. After the entire custom background was dry, I used my finger to apply Hickory Smoke paint over top of both lattice stencil images.

After the Hickory Smoke paint was dry on the lattice stencil images, I covered each lattice image with embossing ink. Once the embossing ink was on, I mixed Onyx Frost and Burnt Copper Leaves Embossing Powder from Emerald Creek and sprinkled over top of each lattice stencil images. When the lattice images were covered with embossing powder, I used my heat tool to emboss them.

After the lattice corner were embossed, I splattered some Hickory Smoke Distress Paint over the canvas. Once the splatters were dry, I used the embossing ink around the edges of the canvas and sprinkled Burnt Copper Leaves around them. When I was happy with the coverage on the edges, I used my heat tool and embossed all the edges.

Now that I had the canvas background how I wanted it, it was time to add the rest of the elements and embellishments.  To start I added the picture of myself in the middle of the canvas. To embellish the corners of the photos, I added the Heart brads from Emerald Creek to the top left hand corner and the bottom right hand corner of my photo. Once the heart brads were in place, I cut out a variety of the Tiny Tattered Floral from Tim Holtz Kraft Core #3, 23 & 24. After all of the flowers were rolled, I added them to bottom right and top left hand corner of the frame, around the hearts. The last element that was added was the "you are enough, be your beautiful self and always love yourself first" saying to the right and left side of the photo. To finish the saying, I added a heart to the bottom of the "yourself first" and to the side of "be your".

Here is my project with all of the elements:

Season's Greeting - Emerald Creek Dares Challenge

It's time for a new challenge over on the Emerald Creek Dares blog and this time it features wishing you all a very happy holidays. I want to take the time to thank you all for taking the time to stop by and viewing my blog on a regular basis, I truly appreciate it. I hope you enjoy viewing how I created my card.

To begin making my card, I cut two pieces of cream cardstock to 3 3/4" x 3 3/4". Once those were cut, I inked up the Holly stamp from Tim Holtz Christmas Blueprints 4 with black archival ink and stamped it on one of the cream cardstock pieces. Re-ink the Holly stamp and stamp onto the second piece of cream cardstock.

Decide which holly image you like the best and set that one aside. Take the second Holly stamped image and colour the holly with Festive Berries and Peeled Paint Distress Markers. Once the holly is coloured, fussy cut around the holly image and the holly word. Take you blending tool and ink the edges of the holly and holly word with Ground Espresso Distress Ink.

To create the banner at the bottom of the card, cut a piece 1" x 5 1/2". With the Barn Door Distress Ink, ink up the Season's Greeting Stamp from Emerald Creek and stamp onto the middle of the paper. Once the greeting is stamped, create the banner ends by cutting a triangle at either end 1/4" in. Once the banner ends have been created, score at 3/4" on the left and right hand side. To make the banner stand up, fold the banner tail up at the score mark and then fold the straight banner part down onto the banner ends.

To finish off the banner, the piece of red cardstock and the first piece of cream cardstock with the holly image, ink all of the edges with Embossing Ink. Once the edges are inked where you want them to be, sprinkle over top with Soft Fallen Snow  Embossing Powder from Emerald Creek and then emboss with a heat tool. Warning, each piece will come out differently. Once embossed, ink the edges using Ground Espresso Distress Ink. Below is how my pieces turned out.

Now that you have seen how I created these different elements for my card, here is the finished card with all of the pieces put together.

Supplies Used: Emerald Creek - Season's Greeting Stamp & Soft Fallen Snow Embossing Powder. Ranger/Tim Holtz - Festive Berries & Peeled Paint Distress Markers, Ground Espresso & Barn Door Distress Ink, Black Archival Ink, Embossing Ink. Stampers Anonymous Stamp - Christmas Blueprints 4. Maja Designs - 6x6 "Home for the Holidays". Bazzill Cardstock - Cream, Red, and Brown. Hug n Snug - Brown ribbon.
