It's an exciting time on the Emerald Creek Dares blog as we celebrate our one year anniversary. To kick off our anniversary the design team has created some fabulous projects using a wonderlust theme. What does wonderlust mean you ask? It means the desire to be in a constant state of wonder. We still have our anything goes challenge happening, so make sure to participate.
For my project I decided that I would create a fun fairy happy birthday card featuring some of the fabulous stamps we carry along with some embossing powder. Let's get started so that I can share with you how to create your own fairy happy birthday card.
To start, you'll need to blend Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry and Spun Sugar Distress Ink on to a piece of 100lb White cardstock that measures 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" using a blending tool and piece of foam for each colour. Once your happy with the blending of the ink, with the Worn Lipstick foam on the blending tool, pick up some ink and apply the ink through the doily stencil onto the custom pink background. To give some extra interest on the background, use a mister and mist some water over the entire background. Dry with a heat tool. Edge distress the edges of the custom background paper. To finish the distressed edges of the custom background paper, use a blending tool and black soot distress ink and ink the edges.
The last step to finish the custom background is using the Be Gone Ya stamp. Apply Embossing Distress Ink to the right hand side of the Be Gone Ya stamp and stamp in the bottom right hand corner of the custom background paper. Clean the stamp. Apply Embossing Distress Ink to the left hand side of the Be Gone Ya stamp and stamp in the top left hand corner of the custom background paper. With the image stamped in either corner, sprinkle Onyx Frost Embossing Powder over top of the stamped images. Tap off excess and emboss with a heat tool. Set background aside.
Using the Stitched Oval Die from Sizzix, cut out two of the largest ovals out of a piece of 100lb white cardstock. One oval you'll leave as an entire oval and the other one, you'll need to separate the stitched part from the oval (you'll only use the stitched edge part). For the stitched edge piece, you'll need to apply Distress Embossing Ink to the entire piece. With the ink on the stitched piece, sprinkle Onyx Frost embossing powder overtop. Tap off excess and emboss with a heat tool.
On the whole oval, you'll need to blend with the corresponding blending tools Worn Lipstick, Spun Sugar and Picked Raspberry onto the oval. With a mister, mist the oval and dry with a heat tool. Once the whole oval is dry, apply Black Archival Ink to the Princess Fairalee stamp and stamp in the middle of the oval. Reapply the Black Archival ink to the Princess Fairalee stamp and stamp onto a piece of scrap 100lb white cardstock. Colour the fairy on the white cardstock using Worn Lipstick, Spun Sugar, Antique Linen, Gathered Twigs, and Squeezed Lemonade Distress Markers. To finish off the wings on the fairy, use the clear overlay sparkle pen from Spectrum Noir. Fussy cut out the coloured fairy and ink the edges of her and the oval with Black Soot distress ink. Add foam squares to the fussy cut out fairy and adhere over top of the stamped fairy.
Apply Black Archival ink to the large butterfly stamp and stamp onto a piece of 100lb white cardstock. Continue to reapply Black Archival Ink to the large butterfly and stamp onto the white cardstock until you have four butterflies. Colour two of the butterflies with the Spun Sugar and Black Soot Distress Marker and colour the other two butterflies with the Worn Lipstick and Black Soot Distress Marker. Once the butterflies have been coloured, fussy cut all four out. With the butterflies cut out, ink the edges of all four of them with Black Soot Distress Ink.
Apply Black Archival Ink to the Faerie stamp and stamp onto a piece of 100lb white cardstock. Reapply the Black Archival Ink to the Faerie stamp and stamp onto the same piece of white cardstock. Colour the two stamped faeries with Worn Lipstick and Antique Linen Distress Markers. To finish the wings on the faeries, use the clear overlay pen from Spectrum Noir. Once the faeries are coloured, fussy cut them out. To finish the edges of them, ink the edges using Black Soot Distress Ink.
Brand new charm alert! We have just got these new fairy charms. I used Pitch Black Alcohol Ink on them and inked them up as they were a brushed gold before.
With all the elements stamped, I started assembling my card. To start, you'll want to foam square the oval to the middle of the custom background. Once the oval is adhered, add one of the Worn lipstick and one Spun Sugar butterflies to the bottom right hand corner of the oval. Make sure to leave room so you can adhere the small faerie in between them. You'll repeat the previous step but this time adhering the butterflies and faerie to the top left hand corner of the oval. For some added dimension on your butterflies, slightly fold the wings up. To finish each corner of the oval I added one of the fairy charms and a few black roses.
The last step for my fairy card was to apply Black Archival Ink to the Happy Birthday stamp and stamp in the bottom left hand corner of the custom background paper.
