It's time for a new Designer Challenge on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog today. For May's challenge it's all about using Silk Microfine Glitter. The inspiration for my project came from Becky's Vintage Gentleman die and the Silk Microfine Glitter from the Beach Set. With the Vintage Gentleman die in hand, I set out to create this masculine Happy Father's Day Card. Make sure to read below as I have a tutorial for you so that you can re-create my Happy Father's Day Card at home. Make sure to read all the way down to the bottom of the post as there's some information on how to get in on the fabulous giveaway from Elizabeth Craft Designs.
To start, you'll need the Dashing Squares. Die cut the 4 3/4" dashing square out of Navy Blue Polka Dot paper from the Thinking about...Polinesia paper. Die cut the 4 1/4" dashing square out of a piece of wood paper from the Wood Effects paper pack. Ink the edges of the squares using a blending tool with Ground Espresso Distress Ink.
From the Dashing Circles die, die cut the 3 1/4" circle out of Navy Blue Polka Dot paper from the Thinking about...Polinesia paper. From the Stitched Circles die, die cut the 2 3/4" circle out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool with foam and Ground Espresso Distress Ink, ink the edges of the circles.
Take the banners from the Celebration Flags die, die cut the banner out of Navy Blue Polka Dot paper from the Thinking about...Polinesia paper. Trim the banner down to four pennants. Die cut the banner a second time out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Trim the banner down to five pennants.
From the Feathers die, die cut two feathers out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink over each feather. Spritz the feathers with water. Set the feathers aside to dry.
Cut a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 5 1/2" x 8 1/2". Cut a piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet that measures 5 1/2" x 8 1/2". Peel off the back off of the adhesive sheet and adhere it to the piece of white Soft Finish Cardstock. From the Words 3 - Happy Holidays, take the "happy", "fathers" and "day" words and place them onto the White Soft Finish Cardstock that has the adhesive on it. Run through your die cutting machine. Peel off the paper from the adhesive sheet on each word. Cover the words with one of the Blue Silk Microfine Glitter from the Beach Set. Once the words are covered with glitter, varnish the glitter with your finger.
From the same piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock that has adhesive on it and place the hat pieces from the Vintage Gentleman dies on it. Run through your die cutting machine. Peel off the paper from the adhesive sheet on each hat piece. Cover the hat pieces with Chocolate Silk Microfine Glitter. Once the hat pieces are covered with glitter, varnish the glitter with your finger.
Now it's time to assemble your card.
Adhere the 4 1/4" wood square piece to the 4 3/4" Navy Blue Polka Dot square. Adhere the White Soft Finish Cardstock circle to the Navy Blue Polka Dot circle. Foam square the navy blue polka dot circle 1/2" from the right and 3/4" from the bottom of the Navy Blue Polka Dot square.
Adhere the feathers to the circle. Foam square the hat overtop of the feathers.
Adhere the "happy", "fathers" and "day" words to the right of the hat. Adhere the two banners in the top right corner of the card front.
Cut a cardbase from White Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 5" x 5", score at 5". Adhere the cardfront to the cardbase.
Here are a few close up photos of the Happy Fathers Day Card.
