Summer Fun with Words & Numbers - Designer Challenge

It's time for a new Designer Challenge on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog today.  For July's challenge it's all about Summer Fun with Words & Numbers. The inspiration for my project came from Joset Designs Blackboard Alphabet dies and the Stitched Fishtails. With how to use the Blackboard Alphabets die in mind, I set out to create my Summer Banner. Grab a summer beverage and read below as I have a tutorial for you so that you can re-create my banner at home. You'll also want to read all the way down to the bottom of the post as there's some information on how to get in on the fabulous giveaway from Elizabeth Craft Designs.

To start, die cut the small and large palm trees out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Twisted Citron Distress Ink on the leaf part of both palm trees. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Vintage Photo Distress Ink over the trunks of each palm trees. For the coconuts, blend Ground Espresso Distress Ink over all six of them using a blending tool with foam.

Choose three lanterns from the Party Lanterns die. Die cut each lantern twice out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. You'll need to cut the handles of the lanterns twice out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. On one of the lantern styles, use a blending tool with foam to blend Faded Jeans Distress Oxide Ink over the non solid pieces. Spritz with water. On the second lantern style, use a blending tool with foam to blend Evergreen Bough Distress Oxide Ink over the non solid pieces. Spritz with water. On the third lantern style, use a blending tool with foam to blend Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide Ink over the non solid pieces. Spritz with water. Set the pieces aside to dry. Use a blending tool with foam to blend Ground Espresso Distress Ink over six of the handles.

From the Blackboard Alphabets Die, die cut the word Summer out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide Ink over the S, M and E. Spritz with water. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Evergreen Bough Distress Oxide Ink over the U, M and R. Spritz with water. Set the letters aside to dry.

From the Tropical Florals die, die cut 2 large ferns, 4 palm leaves, 2 large flowers, 4 small flowers, 4 small centers, 2 large centers, 2 large stems and 4 small stems. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Peeled Paint Distress Oxide Ink over the two large ferns. Spritz with water. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Twisted Citron Distress Oxide Ink over the four palm leaves. Spritz with water. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide Ink over the two large centers and four small centers. Spritz with water. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink over the two large stems and four small stems. Set the wet leaves and centers aside.

From the ModaScrap - Under The Sea Paper Pack, choose two patterned paper pieces. From one of the patterned paper pieces, die cut three 3 1/2" Stitched Fishtails. From the other patterned paper piece, die cut three 3 1/2" Stitched Fishtails. Place the 2" Garden Notes Frame It - Stitched Circles in the center of the banner and run it through your die cutting machine. Repeat the previous step for the other five banners. Ink the edges of all the patterned paper banners using Ground Espresso Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.
