Gladiolus Sympathy Card on the Emerald Creek Dares Blog

The Emerald Creek design team is sharing all this week some of the new products that will be released at Creativation (formerly known as CHA) on Saturday. There are some fantastic new products that you won't want to miss out on, so make sure to get your order in early! It's all about the new products for our projects this month and the design team has created some wonderful projects for you.  For my piece, Kim challenged me to use the new Gladiolus stamp, so I ended up creating a sympathy card that features the new stamp as well as the fabulous new stones. I'm warning you now, that you'll definitely want to order all the stones! Grab a cup of your favourite beverage and enjoy reading my tutorial so that you can recreate my sympathy card at home. Also make sure to scroll down to the bottom as I'am also sharing my class I will be teaching in the Emerald Creek Craft Supplies Booth.

To start, apply Emboss It ink to the You are in our thoughts stamp. Stamp onto a piece of 100lb White Cardstock. Once the sentiment has been stamped, sprinkle Midnight Black Embossing powder overtop. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with your heat tool. Let your sentiment cool. Once your sentiment has cooled, cut it down and create a banner out of it.

Take a edge distressor and distress the edges of the sentiment banner. With a blending tool, ink the edges of the sentiment banner with Black Soot Distress Ink. With the edges inked, on the sentiment banner, mount the sentiment onto a piece of black cardstock. With the sentiment on the black cardstock. Cut around the banner leaving a 1/8" of black showing. Take a edge distressor and distress the edges of the black cardstock banner. With a blending tool, ink the edges of the black cardstock banner with Black Soot Distress Ink.

Next, you'll want to apply Jet Black Archival ink to the Gladiolus stamp and stamp onto a piece of 100lb White Cardstock.  Reapply the ink to the stamp and stamp another flower image. When stamping your flower, make sure to leave enough room around both flowers, so that you can create a base to adhere your coloured gladiolus. Cut one of the flower images to 2" x 3 3/4".  Once the flower image has been cut, distress the edges of the paper and use a blending tool with Black Soot Distress Ink on it to ink the edges of the paper.

Colour the other flower using Candied Apple and Mowed Lawn Distress Markers. Once the flower has been coloured, fussy cut it out. After the flower has been cut out, use your blending tool with Black Soot Distress Ink on it to go around the edges of the flower. Adhere three black stones in the centre of each flower. Once the three black stones have been adhered in the centres, adhere a silver/gold stone in the middle of the black stones.

Cut a piece of 100lb White cardstock that measures 3 1/2" x 4 3/4". With the cardstock cut, apply Emboss It ink to the Kimilese stamp and stamp onto the top portion of your paper. Reapply the Emboss It ink the stamp and stamp onto the bottom portion of the same piece of white cardstock.  With the words stamped, sprinkle Midnight Black Embossing Powder over the entire piece of cardstock. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. Let the embossing cool. With the embossing cooled, apply Candied Apple and Festive Berries Distress Ink over the entire surface which ends up creating your own custom background paper. Once your happy with the red ink on your paper, distress the edges of the paper and then ink the edges using Black Soot Distress Ink on a blending tool.

Cut a piece of black cardstock that measures 2 1/4" x 4". Use a edge distressor to distress the edges of the paper.

Cut a piece of red cardstock that measures 4" x 5 1/4". Use a edge distressor to distress the edges of the paper. Once the edges have been distressed, ink the edges using a blending tool and Black Soot Distress Ink.

Now it's time to assemble the card. Adhere the non coloured flower to the black piece of cardstock. Foam square the black piece of cardstock 1/2" from the left and top of the custom background paper.

Adhere the custom background to the black piece of cardstock. Adhere the black piece of cardstock to the red piece of cardstock.

Foam square the coloured Gladiolus to the black and white Gladiolus image.

Cut a card base from 100lb White Cardstock that measures 5 1/2" x 11" and score at 4 1/4". Adhere the "You are in our thoughts" banner to the right of the Gladiolus image. Once the sentiment has been adhered, adhere the card front to the cardbase. To finish the card, add seven black stones in the bottom left and top right corner to create photo corners.

Here are a few close up shots of my card.

Here comes Summer on the Emerald Creek Dares Blog

It's all about Summer on the Emerald Creek Dares blog for this weeks two week challenge. For this challenge I focused on the ocean aspect of summer. With growing up on the west coast of Canada I was spoiled to be able to go and relax by the ocean. So, for my project I decided that I would create a ocean inspired happy birthday card. Lets get started as I show   you how you can create my ocean birthday card at home.

To start you will need to cut a 4" x 5 1/4" piece out of 100lb white cardstock. Once the cardstock is cut, apply Distress Embossing Ink to the Mayflower stamp. Stamp the ship starting at the top of the white piece of cardstock. Continue applying ink to the ship and stamping it onto the white cardstock piece until the entire piece is covered in ships. After the white cardstock is covered in ships, sprinkle  Fine Clear Embossing powder over top of the entire piece, tap off the excess and then emboss with a heat tool.

After the ships have been embossed, it's time to blend Broken China, Tumbled Glass, Mermaid Lagoon and Faded Jeans Distress Ink over top of the entire ship embossed piece of paper. If  the background turns out to blue for you, blend a bit of Vintage Photo Distress Ink over top to tone it down. To finish the custom background, edge distress the edges and then ink them with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Now that the custom ship background piece is done, it's time to move on to the oval piece. For the oval you will need to use the Tim Holtz Stitched Ovals Dies from Sizzix and a small piece of 100lb white cardstock. Once the oval has been cut, blend Broken China, Tumbled Glass, Mermaid Lagoon and Faded Jeans Distress Ink over the entire oval. To finish the oval, edge distress the edges and then ink the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

After the oval is coloured with the Distress Ink, it's time to work on the sentiment. For the sentiment I used the Happy Birthday stamp and applied Vintage Photo Distress Ink to it. Once the stamp is inked, stamp onto a small piece of 100lb white cardstock. After it's been stamped, blend Broken China, Tumbled Glass, Mermaid Lagoon and Faded Jeans Distress Ink over the entire sentiment. When your happy with the coloured background on the sentiment, trim the Happy and the Birthday apart.  To finish the sentiment, edge distress the edges and then ink the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

With the sentiment being done, it's time to move on to the Anchor Charm. To get rid of the bright silver on the anchor charm, apply a layer of Gold Alcohol Adirondack Ink to it. Once the gold layer is dry, apply a layer of Mushroom Alcohol Adirondack Ink randomly over top of the gold. Set aside to dry.

The next step is to work on the stamped images. The first stamped image is the Starfish. Apply Vintage Photo Distress Ink to the starfish and stamp on to the 100lb white cardstock. Once stamped, colour the starfish with the Candied Apple Distress Marker. Fussy cut out the starfish and then ink the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

After the starfish is done, the next image that you will stamp is the Octopus. Apply Vintage Photo Distress Ink to the octopus stamp and stamp on to the 100lb white cardstock. After the octopus has been stamped, colour the octopus with the Scattered Straw Distress Marker. Fussy cut out the octopus and then ink the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

The last stamped image is the Water Logged. Apply Vintage Photo Distress Ink to the water logged stamp and stamp on to the 100lb white cardstock, repeat this step two more times. Once the water logged images are stamped, colour them with Gathered Twigs, Candied Apple and Scattered Straw Distress Marker. Fussy cut the water logged images out and then ink the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Once all of the images are cut, adhere them along with the sentiment to the oval.

One of the finishing touches for my card, is wrapping linen twine around the middle of the boat custom background and then foam squaring the oval overtop in the middle of the background. The second finishing touch is adding glossy accents to the starfish and octopus stamped images. The last finishing touch is adding a piece of teal cardstock to behind the ship custom background that measures 4 1/8" x 5 3/8", make sure to edge distress the edges and ink them with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Winter Canvas on the Southern Ridge Trading Company Blog

I'am back on the Southern Ridge Trading Company blog today to feature a "Winter" inspired project . There is still six days left to enter your "winter" piece into our Monthly Challenge and we would love to see you project. For all of the details, head here. For my post today,  I created a winter canvas.

Supplies Used: Ranger/Tim Holtz - Ground Expresso Distress Ink, Distress Crackle Paint - Clear Rock Candy. Ranger/Dylusions - Dylusions Paint: White Linen. Sizzix/Tim Holtz - Holiday Words: Block. Tim Holtz Ideaology - 6x8 Burlap Panel. Emerald Creek - Iridescent Shimmer  & Soft Fallen Snow Embossing Powder. Viva Decor - Inka Gold: Old Gold & Brown Gold. Tsukineko/Imagine Crafts - VersaMark. Bo Bunny Sleigh Ride - Blizzard, Logs & Tradition. Bazzill Cardstock - Java. May Arts Twine - White.

To begin, I prepped the background of my burlap panel, using a blending tool and inking 1/2" in around all the edges of the panel. Once the edges were inked, I sprinkled Soft Fallen Snow Embossing Powder around all four edges and embossed them.

Once the background of the panel was finished, I set it aside and started working on the Cedar Trees. I covered all three cedar trees with Brown Gold Inka Gold. Once the Inka Gold was dry, I covered each cedar tree with a layer of Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle paint and set them aside to dry.

Once the cedar trees were drying, I moved on to the Plain Banners. I covered the three plain banners with Old Gold Inka Gold. Once all three banners were covered, I applied a layer Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint over top and set them aside to dry.

I wanted to add something to the plain banners, so I pulled out my stash of Mini Wood Snowflakes. Before embossing the snowflakes, I painted them with a layer of Dylusions Paint in White Linen. Once the paint was dry, I covered them in a layer of VersaMark and then sprinkled Soft Fallen Snow Embossing Powder overtop of them and embossed them.

For the finishing touches on my winter canvas, I added two layers of patterned paper from Bo Bunny's Sleigh Ridge Collection. I also wanted to add the word "winter" somewhere on my canvas, so I cut it out using the Tim Holtz/Sizzix - Holiday Words: Block die, attaching it to the top of my photo. For the last of the finishing touches, I added some Iridescent Shimmer Embossing Powder to parts of the edges of the patterned paper.

Here is the finish Winter canvas with all of the elements put together.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my winter canvas. Stayed tuned for some more crafty goodness.

Until Next Time!

We are on our way

It's the start of CHA today and I can't think of a better way to start off CHA by sharing a brand new release from Emerald Creek Craft Supplies featuring two new stamp sets by Nicole Wright Designs. Nicole has created a beautiful Fallen Blossom stamp set and a stunning Upstream Stamp set. I can't wait to create more projects using these stamp sets.  The stamp sets are available to order on the Emerald Creek Craft Supplies website.  For my project, I created a Pop Up Box Card featuring the two new beautiful stamp sets.

Supplies Used: Emerald Creek Craft Supplies featuring Nicole Wright Designs - Cherry Blossom & Koi stamp set. Ranger/Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Black Soot & Antique Linen. Ranger/Tim Holtz Distress Markers - Carved Pumpkin, Dried Marigold, Spiced Marmalade, Black Soot, Worn Lipstick & Spun Sugar. Tim Holtz Kraft Core - #13 & #19. Bazzill Cardstock - Black. 1 3/8" Circle Punch.

To begin making my card, I coloured two sets of the cherry blossom image with Worn Lipstick and Spun Sugar Distress Markers. Once all the images were coloured, fussy cut them out and inked the edges using Black Soot Distress Ink on a blending tool.

After the Cherry blossoms images were fussy cut out and inked, I moved on to colouring the Koi. For the Koi you will need two sets of the Koi images. To colour them I used Carved Pumpkin, Dried Marigold, Spiced Marmalade and Black Soot Distress Markers.  Once the I was happy with the colouring, I fussy cut all the Koi out and inked the edges using Black Soot Distress Ink on a blending tool.

For the saying, it is found on the Cherry Blossom set. I stamped it and then inked over top of it with Antique Linen Distress Ink on a blending tool. Once I was happy with the colour, I trimmed out the saying into two strips. Love this saying that Nicole Wright Designs incorporated into the set.

To create the Pop Up Box card, I followed a tutorial the I found on the Split Coast Stampers website, here is the link so you can create it at home: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/popupboxcard/. Below is what the Pop Up Box Card will look like before assembly.

Before attaching the box together, I cut out panels using Graphic 45's Bird Song Paper and Tim Kraft Core paper #19. Once these were cut I inked them using Black Soot Distress Ink on a blending tool.

After the panels were cut, I adhered them to the small panel pieces to the small panels and the loong panel pieces to the long inside panel. Once the panels were adhered, place adhesive on the tab and attach the tab to the outside of the long panel. Once the box is adhered together, cover the outside tab using a piece of Tim Holtz Kraft Core #19.

Before decorating the inside, you will want to attach the inside centre piece. This will allow for attaching the Koi and Cherry Blossoms to the inside of the card.

After the inside support pieces are in place, now it is time to decorate. I used a variety of the Koi images, cherry blossoms and the saying and placed them throughout the inside of the pop up box.   An extra piece I added was 1 3/8" circle lily pad out of the Tim Holtz Kraft Core #13. To top  off the lily pad add a cherry blossom petal to the top of it. Once I was happy with placement of all of the images, I adhered some pieces with adhesive and other pieces with foam squares, to give it some extra dimension.

Supplies Used: Emerald Creek Craft Supplies featuring Nicole Wright Designs - Cherry Blossom & Koi stamp set. Ranger/Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Black Soot & Antique Linen. Ranger/Tim Holtz Distress Markers - Carved Pumpkin, Dried Marigold, Spiced Marmalade, Black Soot, Worn Lipstick & Spun Sugar. Tim Holtz Kraft Core - #13 & #19. Bazzill Cardstock - Black. 1 3/8" Circle Punch.

Here is my Pop Up Box card with all the aspects together.

This card was a ton of fun to make and with the beautiful stamped images from Nicole Wright Designs, it created the perfect combination!

Make sure that you go and check out the rest of the Emerald Creek Dares Design Team as they have all created different pieces using the same stamp sets:

Winter Wonderland Card for Southern Ridge Trading Company

I'm back on the Southern Ridge Trading Company blog today featuring a winter scene card for their January's Monthly Challenge. We would love for you to share your projects with us, to do this, you can head over here to read all about the challenge and how to enter your piece or pieces.
Here's my winter scene card:

Supplies Used: SRTC - Snowflake Chipboard & Cedar Tree Chipboard. Emerald Creek - Soft Fallen Snow Embossing Powder. Tim Holtz/Ranger Distress Ink: Ground Espresso & Vintage Photo. Tim Holtz/Sizzix - Woodlands Die & Birch Tree Die. Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko - Silver Delicata. Bazzill - Brown & Cream Cardstock. Bo Bunny Sleigh Ride - Sleigh Ride, Flurries & Blizzard.

I started by covering the Cedar Tree chipboard piece with Ground Espresso Distress Ink.

Once the Cedar Tree was finished,  I moved on to working on the Snowflakes 713 and 714. I wanted to have some shine coming through the embossing powder, so I added a layer of Silver Delicata. Becuase the Delicata takes longer to dry, I added Soften Fallen Snow Embossing Powder from Emerald Creek Craft Supplies over top of the snowflakes and then heated up the embossing powder. When they were all embossed, some ended up with patches that didn't get a lot of embossing powder, so I added some Ground Espresso Distress Ink over top to give them more of a vintage look.

Some finishing touches that I added was the Woodlands tree from Sizzix/Tim Holtz, where I inked the edges in Ground Espresso Distress Ink. As well as the Birch Tree die from Sizzix/Tim Holtz, where the knots on the trees were, I blended Vintage Photo and Ground Espresso over top to make the birch trees pop.

Here is the card with all of the elements together:

Thanks for taking the time to check out my card! Stay tuned for some CHA projects on the blog the rest of this week and next week.

Until Next Time!
-Katelyn
